Surgery at Sorell Veterinary Centre

Surgery is never a decision we take lightly. At our clinic, surgical procedures are only recommended when they are in your pet’s best interests and will improve their comfort, quality of life, or long-term health. If a procedure is unlikely to provide benefit, we will always be open and discuss alternative options with you.

We are proud to offer a well-equipped, modern surgical suite, supported by experienced veterinarians and highly trained nursing staff. We perform a wide range of procedures, from routine desexing and soft tissue surgery to caesarean sections, exploratory abdominal surgery, orthopaedic procedures such as cruciate ligament repair, and many other surgical interventions.

Your pet’s safety is our highest priority. We use Isoflurane gaseous anaesthesia, widely regarded as the safest inhalant anaesthetic available. All procedures are performed using strict sterile techniques, including sterile gloving, autoclaved and disposable draping, and sterilised instrumentation. To maintain comfort and reduce recovery time, pets are kept warm throughout surgery using heating pads.

During every procedure, your pet is closely monitored by our Certificate IV Qualified Veterinary Nurses, using advanced digital anaesthetic monitoring equipment to track vital signs in real time. Where appropriate, we also provide in-house pre-anaesthetic blood testing and intravenous fluid therapy to further support your pet before, during and after surgery.

While some surgeries are considered routine, such as castrations and speys, we treat every procedure with the same level of care, attention to detail and cleanliness. Our team’s surgical experience allows for efficient procedures, helping to reduce anaesthetic time and support safer, more cost-effective outcomes.
