At Sorell Veterinary Centre, we provide personalised vaccination plans based on your pet’s age, lifestyle and risk factors. Vaccine types and schedules can vary, so your veterinarian will always discuss the most appropriate options for your pet during their appointment.
Vaccinations for Cats
During your visit, your veterinarian will assess your cat’s environment, lifestyle and potential exposure risks before recommending a schedule.
Most kittens receive their first vaccinations between 8 – 10 weeks of age, followed by a second dose at 12 – 14 weeks, and a final kitten booster at 16 – 18 weeks. After the initial course, ongoing boosters may be recommended annually or at longer intervals depending on lifestyle and risk.
Core cat vaccines typically protect against Feline Panleukopenia (FPV), Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) and Feline Calicivirus (FCV). For cats that spend time outdoors or are at higher risk, additional vaccines such as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) or Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) may be advised.
Vaccinations for Dogs
Puppies usually begin their vaccination course at 6 – 8 weeks of age, with follow-up vaccinations at 12 – 14 weeks and a final booster at 16 – 18 weeks, depending on individual circumstances and vaccine type.
Core dog vaccinations commonly protect against Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus, with Bordetella (kennel cough) often recommended for dogs that attend boarding, grooming or social environments. Leptospirosis vaccination may also be advised depending on your dog’s location and lifestyle.
Following the initial puppy course, dogs typically require annual or triennial boosters, as recommended by your veterinarian.
